Deep-learning solutions designed for accurate MR-only based radiation treatments

The integration of Spectronic Medical’s AI-based MRI Planner Software‡‡ with GE Healthcare’s AIR™ Recon DL technology will enable MR-only based radiotherapy planning. These AI solutions will help clinicians to differentiate soft tissue in cancer treatment planning so they can better direct radiotherapy.
How does it work? The process begins with AIR™ Recon DL, a deep-learning image reconstruction algorithm that makes full use of all the raw data coming off the MR scanner to reduce image noise, maximize image quality and resolution, and shorten scan times. The high-quality MR images generated by the GE system are then converted into synthetic CT images by Spectronic Medical’s MRI Planner Software, providing clinicians with the CT-like images they have come to expect with the MR soft tissue details they need to target lesions.
"We have found MR imaging in radiation therapy helps improve the accuracy of our treatment delivery," says Adalsteinn Gunnlaugsson, MD, PhD, Skåne University Hospital, Lund, Sweden. "The generated synthetic CT from the Spectronic MRI Planner software on our SIGNA™ Architect MR Radiation Oncology Solution allows us to eliminate conventional CT examination and the need for multimodal image registration, streamlining our clinical workflow."
